Funny Conversations

Wrinkles:
My birthday is next week and I'll be 3- years old (and kind of sad about it). It doesn't help that Aliyah is afraid to look at me the morning of my birthday because she's convinced I'm going to wake up with a face full of wrinkles and she doesn't want to see me like that. Hahahahaha

San Diego:
Aliyah: Mom when are we going to San Diego?
Me: Next week
Aliyah: Tomorrow?
Me: No, next week
A: Tomorrow?
M: No... next... week
A: Oh, tomorrow?
M: (hahahaha) no, next Wed.
A: Oh, the day after today?
LOL

Lazarus:
(we're in the car driving home and this is what I hear in the back seat)
Aliyah: Lazarus died before Jesus
Michael: No, he died after Jesus
(This continues on for a while and both kids are getting irritated and starting to get really annoyed with each other)
Me: Are you talking about the first or second time he died?
Michael: The second time
Me: Hmmm, I'm not sure if he died before or after Jesus
Aliyah: He died before
Michael: NO, he died after!
Aliyah: Just a minute, I'm going to ask my brain. (silence...) My brain said he died before Jesus.
Michael: Well he didn't! He died after!
Aliyah: Okay, I'm going to ask my heart. (silence...) My heart said he died before Jesus.
Michael: I'm going to pray about it and see. (silence...) I prayed about it and he died after Jesus.
Aliyah: I'm going to pray about it too...
Michael: You're just going to say he died before!!!
Hahahaha

The end of swimming

Today was our last day of swim lessons. The kids made amazing progress. Michael is swimming laps in the deep end and went off the diving board, pulled himself up out of the water and swam to the side with absolutely no help.

Aliyah has mastered the diving board and swims with her water wings all over the whole pool. She's not afraid of the water and enjoys playing rough in it. Truly a successful swim session for my kids and we're very excited.

Swimming Update

The swimming post was actually for last week. It took me a while trying to get the video on but it didn't work. Anyway since that post, Michael went to a birthday party on Saturday at a friends house who also has a pool. I was totally betrayed by my husband and Michael! I told them I didn't want Michael jumping off the roof (yes the roof of the house) into the pool but they let him and he did it twice! I hear he didn't hesitate, just climbed that long ladder to the top of the roof and jumped. AAAAHHHHH! So glad I wasn't there!!! I think we've created a monster!

Swimming Miracles

(These rafts were a treat after one of the lessons.)

There are 2 sisters in our YW that have a pool and the perfect set up for swimming lessons. I'd been asking them to consider teaching and I would pay them and put together a class for them if they wanted me to. They offered to do it for one of their YW value projects. So we take the kids over there every day for an hour, for 2 weeks. YAY!
The kids have made amazing improvement! Seriously, Aliyah used to cry when she got water in her face in the bathtub.

Michael was just getting used to water. We've only been in lessons 4 days so far and Michael is swimming under water and yesterday after only being in the pool 3 days, he went off the diving board multiple times! Aliyah is pushing off the side and swimming to her teacher! She follows her teacher around the pool on her noodle, even to the deep end! And when she went under water... she didn't cry!

We have made such huge progress this week and it's only been 4 days! Amazing! What a difference private swim lessons makes. Michael has been going to the city pool for lessons and he was supposed to go up to level 2 which is just beyond water exploration... yes holding onto the side of the pool, kicking and blowing bubbles. Last year Aliyah was signed up for lessons (yes that means I paid for them) and she wouldn't even get in the water! In fact she was so sure she wasn't going to get in the pool that she refused to even where her suit to lessons.

Look what she did! I only have video of the actual jump into the pool and I couldn't get the video on here. She didn't hesitate once she got to the end, just jumped. She did say she doesn't want to do it again but at least she went!

I would pay good money for these lessons but we were fortunate to get them for free. Now if the girls don't totally hate it, maybe I can actually pay them next year for more lessons.

Summer Summer Summer

Summer has brought on some boredom. The kids are in swimming lessons, we go to the beach and do summer reading but there is still a lot of time to fill so Michael has taken up digging in the back yard. This was supposed to be our garden but we never planted anything here so now he's making some type of canal. He's been digging this for several days. It's amazing how much time he can spend out there digging! He fills it with water and splashes around in it.

When Aliyah and I get bored we look up new hairdo's to try. This is an original made up by yours truly. I couldn't find one I was in the mood to do so I decided to experiment. I'm much better at following instructions than creating my own but it's always fun to just play around.
Today Aliyah was bored so it was her turn to do my hair. I enjoyed resting on the couch while she played around with it. I actually fell asleep for a few minutes and when I woke up she had "braided" my hair. She was trying to get the end pieces apart but was having a hard time. She actually got a pretty cool twist going but the end was a massive knot. I had to spray detangler in it and work the knot out.

Enjoying our fruit

We are very fortunate to have fruit trees in our backyard. Look at this delicious avocado! Hmmm, can't wait to make it into guacamole!

Today Michael got a chair and reached up to pick some of our oranges. He grabbed several for himself and Aliyah then, rather than bring them to me to open, he threw them on the patio to crack them. They ripped open the oranges and sucked all the juice out of them! Yummy if they were ripe, but they're not quite ripe and still sour. Kids didn't care though!

Look what I did today! So strawberries were on sale a few days ago... and our lemon tree has VERY ripe lemons that we'll lose if we don't use...sooooo.... what can you make with strawberries & lemons?? Only our families very favorite drink! STRAWBERRY LEMONADE! I was very excited to find this recipe to can the concentrate. Now we'll get to enjoy this fresh treat year round!

Ping Pong

So I bought a Ping Pong table. We found it in someones front yard (we've never done that before) for $20 so I decided to go for it. Growing up we had a Ping Pong table and I have great memories of it. The seller even delivered it for me! We put it in our covered back patio area and have been playing it every day. Sometimes all 4 of us play but Aliyahs height is a bit challenging to play very well so she just jumps in every once in a while. The other day Michael and I were playing and Aliyah decided to join us. Apparently this is her Ping Pong outfit. :)
